Prepared school remarks from the President

I'm a bit disgusted with the fact that there has been some backlash about the President's speech to the school children. Comparing Obama to Hitler's targeting of children? How about Reagan's Q & A with school children?

I don't see what the harm is in having people in leadership positions, including political positions, encouraging young kids. We're all role models and should take the opportunity, when given it, to raise awareness and challenge students. Not to mention stir discussion among parents and teachers and other adults that they too have a huge impact on the next generation. Everyone has to make a living some how, no matter what political party you fall into, especially in light of the recession, why not discuss school and how to be successful?

What ever you think your role is as a part of the American society, be it leaning towards the collective or the individual, these principles are part of growing up. I don't know one person who hasn't been influences by someone else's support.

Every single one of you has something you’re good at. Every single one of you has something to offer. And you have a responsibility to yourself to discover what that is. That’s the opportunity an education can provide.

But at the end of the day, the circumstances of your life – what you look like, where you come from, how much money you have, what you’ve got going on at home – that’s no excuse for neglecting your homework or having a bad attitude. That’s no excuse for talking back to your teacher, or cutting class, or dropping out of school. That’s no excuse for not trying.
